Janet (Jan) Nelson was born in Glasgow in 1956. She is a self taught artist who studied for three years through the Open College of the Arts at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh and has been painting for over 25 years. Working on a part time basis initially, she took up painting full time in 2008 and is now based at her studio on the Cowal Peninsula of the West Coast of Scotland, where work can be combined with her other great love of sailing.
We first noticed Jan's work on-line, in a promotion for an exhibition at Annan Gallery in Glasgow's west end. We loved her sailing paintings, and as we wanted more nautical art for our collection, we contacted Jan to work on a commission. We requested a two-part panoramic sailing scene with Arran featured in the background. Jan's creation exceeded our expectations! Inspired by her own passion for the sport, Jan's wonderful creative ability to capture the drama and beauty of sailing is clearly evident in these two bold, colourful works.
